Wild Amazon: 5 Days Off the Grid

Step into the gateway of the Amazon and journey far beyond the city limits on this immersive 5-day experience. Your adventure begins in Manaus, a vibrant riverfront city where jungle and urban life collide. Spend a full day exploring its highlights—from historic architecture and colorful markets to the iconic riverside scenery—before leaving the noise behind.

From Manaus, you head deep into the Amazon Rainforest for four unforgettable days surrounded by raw nature. Travel by river, sleep close to the jungle, and wake up to the sounds of wildlife. Guided walks reveal medicinal plants and hidden trails, while boat excursions take you through flooded forests and remote waterways. You’ll spot monkeys, birds, pink river dolphins, and, with a bit of luck, caimans after dark.

Life in the Amazon moves at its own rhythm. You’ll connect with local communities, learn survival skills, swim in jungle waters, and experience sunsets that paint the river gold. This tour blends adventure, nature, and culture—perfect for travelers who want more than just a visit, and less than the ordinary.

Why you'll love this trip

  • The perfect balance – One day in lively Manaus, followed by four days fully immersed in the Amazon jungle. You get culture, comfort, and wild nature in one trip.

  • Real Amazon experiences – Guided jungle walks, river excursions, wildlife spotting, and time with local communities bring the rainforest to life beyond the postcards.

  • Disconnect to reconnect – Limited signal, endless green, and nights filled with jungle sounds make it easy to switch off and truly be present.

  • Adventure made easy – Logistics, guides, and activities are all taken care of, so you can focus on exploring, learning, and enjoying every moment.

This itinerary is valid for departures from 01 January 2026 to 31 December 2026.

Important Notice for All Participants

This tour involves active exploration in remote jungle environments, including long walks, canoeing, overnight camping, and limited access to modern facilities.

Weather conditions, wildlife sightings, and daily schedules may vary due to nature, river levels, and safety considerations. All activities are led by experienced local guides, and participants must follow instructions at all times to ensure group safety.

Electricity, phone signal, and hot water may be limited or unavailable in some locations. Expect basic but authentic accommodations, close contact with nature, and conditions that may include heat, humidity, insects, and mud.

This is a real Amazon adventure, designed for travelers seeking immersion rather than luxury. Being prepared, adaptable, and respectful of local communities and the environment will greatly enhance your journey.

  • Welcome to Manaus, the vibrant gateway to the Amazon. Upon arrival at the airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel and have time to settle in.

If time allows, we recommend getting out to explore the city’s highlights. Visit the iconic Amazon Theatre (Teatro Amazonas), a symbol of the rubber-boom era, and wander through the lively Adolpho Lisboa Market to see (and taste) local Amazonian products. A walk along the Rio Negro waterfront is a great way to feel the pulse of the city and watch the river traffic roll by.

In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and experience Manaus by night before resting up for the journey into the rainforest the following day.

    Overnight in Manaus.

  • After breakfast, depart your hotel and head to the pier to begin your journey into the Amazon. The transfer takes around 2–3 hours, combining river travel and a short road drive, gradually entering the rainforest.

Arrive at your rainforest lodge in time for lunch at the pousada. After a brief rest, afternoon activities begin with canoeing and exploration of Amazonian lakes and islands, offering great chances to spot wildlife, including sloths and the famous gray and pink river dolphins (botos). You’ll also try piranha fishing, a classic Amazon experience.

After dinner, head out on a night boat excursion for caiman spotting (focagem do jacaré), followed by Amazonian stories and legends, bringing the jungle to life after dark.

    Overnight at the Amazon lodge

  • The day begins early at 5:30 a.m. with a sunrise canoe excursion, a magical moment for spotting exotic birds as the rainforest comes alive.

After breakfast, navigate into the primary rainforest within a protected sustainable reserve. From here, continue on foot into the jungle, where you’ll set up camp deep in the forest.

Along the way, your guide will teach key Amazon survival techniques: making fire in the humid jungle, climbing trees, collecting and crafting liana (sipó) ropes, building an eco-friendly camp, and learning about traditional hunting traps.

Overnight in the jungle, sleeping in hammocks with mosquito nets, fully immersed in the sounds and atmosphere of the Amazon rainforest.

  • Today is a true immersion into the deep Amazon rainforest. After an early start, you’ll set out on an extended exploration trek, lasting approximately 6 to 8 hours, through remote jungle terrain.

Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the world of Amazonian plants—medicinal, aromatic, poisonous, exotic, and traditional aphrodisiacs—explaining their uses and importance. You’ll also discover the incredible insect life, from tarantulas and scorpions to beetles, dragonflies, and butterflies.

The walk offers opportunities to learn about Amazon mammals such as monkeys, tapirs, and signs of larger predators like pumas and jaguars, as well as the world of snakes, including boas, anacondas, and other native species. Keep your eyes up for the rich birdlife, including toucans, parrots, macaws, hummingbirds, herons, and hawks.

In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at a native forest community, where you’ll be welcomed into a local home and experience daily life in the Amazon. After dinner, head out for a night canoe excursion to observe nocturnal animals, followed by a traditional arrow fishing experience.

    Overnight in the native community.

  • In the morning, begin your navigation back through the rainforest, keeping an eye out for sloths and monkeys along the riverbanks.

Along the way, visit remote river communities to learn about traditional Amazon livelihoods, including cassava (mandioca) plantations, the processing of cassava into farinha and farofa, and the historic rubber extraction methods that shaped the region.

Around 1:00 p.m., arrive back at the jungle lodge for lunch. Afterward, enjoy a well-deserved shower and time to freshen up—after days in the forest, everyone will be happily covered in jungle stories.

Then continue the journey back to Manaus, arriving around 5:00 p.m. Upon arrival, drop-off at the airport is included.

A late evening flight is strongly recommended to allow for a smooth and relaxed transfer.

BEST OF SALVADOR

Xavier

Traveled September 2026

I travelled with my friend and that was the first time that I booked a tour for 10 days in Malaysia Borneo with a travel agency. I normally travel with my partner and we book and organise everything by ourselves. I was positively impressed how amazing this tour was. Our tour guide Jeffrey did an amazing job.
