Deep Amazon Expedition: From the Rainforest to Alter do Chão and Belém
This immersive expedition offers an in-depth exploration of northern Brazil, combining pristine rainforest environments, extended river navigation, and meaningful cultural encounters along the Amazon. The journey begins in the heart of the rainforest, where guests stay within the jungle and experience its extraordinary biodiversity through guided walks, wildlife observation, and insight into the ecological and cultural significance of the Amazon basin.
From the rainforest, the expedition continues by boat along the Amazon River, transforming the journey itself into a central part of the experience. As the route approaches Alter do Chão, the focus shifts to life along the riverbanks. Guests spend several days navigating smaller waterways, visiting traditional riverside communities and gaining firsthand insight into their daily rhythms, customs, and relationship with the river.
During this phase of the journey, guests overnight within local communities, sleeping in simple bunk-style accommodations along the riverbanks. These stays offer an authentic and respectful way to engage with local families, share meals, and learn about fishing practices, agriculture, and river-based livelihoods. Time is unhurried, allowing for genuine interaction and a deeper understanding of Amazonian life beyond the main travel corridors.
Alter do Chão itself provides a natural pause in the expedition, known for its white-sand river beaches, calm waters, and relaxed atmosphere. Guests can explore nearby lagoons and islands, enjoy time on the river, and reflect on the journey before continuing downstream.
The expedition concludes in Belém, the historic gateway to the Atlantic. Here, the cultural layers of the Amazon come together through colonial architecture, bustling markets, and one of Brazil’s most distinctive culinary traditions.
Designed for travelers seeking depth, authenticity, and extended immersion, this expedition reveals the Amazon not only as a landscape, but as a living network of communities connected by the river.
