Immersion in the Shanenawa Way of Life
Immersion in the Shanenawa Way of Life offers travelers a rare opportunity to step beyond conventional tourism and experience life within an Indigenous community of the Brazilian Amazon. This journey invites participants to slow down, disconnect from modern routines, and connect deeply with the land, the people, and a living cultural tradition.
Guests are welcomed into the rhythm of daily Shanenawa life—sharing meals, learning traditional crafts, listening to ancestral stories, and exploring the forest alongside community members who know it intimately. From preparing local foods to discovering the use of medicinal plants, each moment is guided by authenticity, respect, and meaningful exchange.
More than a visit, this immersion is a shared experience rooted in connection and reciprocity. Travelers leave not only with unforgettable memories, but with a deeper appreciation for Indigenous wisdom, sustainable living, and the enduring relationship between the Shanenawa people and the Amazon rainforest.
This experience is especially suited for individuals seeking a profound reconnection with nature, those drawn to spiritual reflection and inner renewal, and travelers looking for a retreat-like journey that prioritizes presence, simplicity, and cultural depth over conventional sightseeing.

Important Notice for All Participants
Participants are responsible for booking their international and domestic flights. We strongly recommend that all flight arrangements and connection times be carefully reviewed with your travel agent or travel expert prior to booking, to ensure smooth and reliable connections.
All participants must arrive in Rio Branco (RBR) on the first day of the itinerary. Arrival on this day is essential, as the group departs early the following morning for the journey to the Shanenawa Community. Late arrivals may result in missing the group departure and may not be able to join the expedition
Itinerary
Your journey begins with arrival in Rio Branco, the capital of Acre and the main gateway to the western Amazon. Travelers arrive at Rio Branco International Airport – Plácido de Castro (RBR), which is well connected to Brazil’s major hubs. The most efficient flight connections are via São Paulo (GRU) or Brasília (BSB), both offering regular nonstop or one-stop flights to Rio Branco with major Brazilian airlines.
Upon arrival at Rio Branco Airport, you will be transferred to your selected hotel, where the community experience will officially begin the following morning. Gather with our tour guide at the hotel for dinner, where the entire group will enjoy traditional local cuisine and get to know the other members of the expedition. Free and easy for the rest of the day.
After an early breakfast, the expedition officially begins with departure from Rio Branco toward the Shanenawa community. Traveling by road through the Amazonian landscape, the journey offers a first glimpse into the region’s forests, rivers, and remote settlements. As the route moves away from the city, participants gradually transition into the rhythm of the forest. Upon arrival at the Shanenawa community, guests are warmly welcomed and introduced to their hosts, marking the beginning of the immersive cultural experience.
During these days, participants fully immerse themselves in daily life within the Shanenawa community, guided by community members and shaped by traditional rhythms, collective needs, and the surrounding forest environment.
It is important to note that a fixed daily itinerary cannot be defined in advance, as activities may change in order or context depending on community life, environmental conditions, and cultural priorities. This flexibility is an essential part of the experience and reflects the Shanenawa way of living in balance with nature.
Activities may include guided forest walks focused on medicinal plants and ancestral knowledge; participation in daily practices such as food preparation, crafts, and community activities; storytelling and cultural exchanges with elders; traditional music and dance; and time for rest, reflection, and personal integration.
One evening includes an optional traditional ceremonial experience, led by community elders, centered on spiritual connection and ancestral practices. Participation is voluntary and conducted with respect and clear guidance.
Together, these days offer a deep cultural, spiritual, and ecological immersion, fostering meaningful exchange, adaptability, and a genuine understanding of life within the Shanenawa community.
After breakfast in the community, participants share a farewell with their Shanenawa hosts and begin the return journey to Rio Branco. Traveling back through the Amazonian landscape, the group arrives in the city later in the day and checks in at the hotel for an overnight stay. Depending on the arrival time, a group farewell dinner may be organized. The remainder of the evening is free to rest and reflect on the experience.
After breakfast, airport transfers are arranged for departure from Rio Branco International Airport (RBR). Participants take their scheduled flights to return home or continue their journey to another destination.
If your onward flight connects through Manaus, we can arrange an optional short stay along the Amazon River, or extend your journey to Alter do Chão, where you can continue exploring local communities and natural beauty. Known for its white-sand river beaches, Alter do Chão is often referred to as the Caribbean of the Amazon. The area is also a gateway to exploring local river communities, forest trails, and protected natural reserves, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking relaxation, cultural encounters, and ecological experiences.
Alter do Chão combines natural beauty, slow-paced living, and authentic Amazonian heritage, making it a complementary extension to deeper rainforest and Indigenous immersion journeys.

BEST OF SALVADOR

Traveled September 2026
I travelled with my friend and that was the first time that I booked a tour for 10 days in Malaysia Borneo with a travel agency. I normally travel with my partner and we book and organise everything by ourselves. I was positively impressed how amazing this tour was. Our tour guide Jeffrey did an amazing job.
